Da Vinci Code Controversy
Well there has been a big ta-do regarding Dan Brown's best selling novel (and I stress the word novel) known as The Da Vinci Code. Unfortunately there have been much controversy since the novel was published, and the present Hollywood movie starring Tom Hanks. There have been religous groups all around the world showing their displeasure (and anger) due to the depicitions of Mary Magdelene, Jesus Christ, the disciples, the holy grail, and much more. For my readers who have never read The Da Vinci Code, or seen the movie, I would like to share my opinion on the matter. First of all the novel actually states on the jacket, that it is a work of fiction - a story that intermingles legends, fables, facts, and hearsay. The premise that has so many people upset is that the holy grail was not a cup or chalis, but instead a person; in this case Mary Magdelene. What irks me with all the complaining going on, is that not only The Da Vinci Code labeled as a pure work of fiction by the authors, the spewings that have so many religious groups and scholars upset, are the assumptions of a phsycodic murderer in the novel.
Some of the disgruntled relgious authorities are absolutley incensed with the content of The Da Vinci Code, and they pick away at the inconsistencies regarding the Knights Tempalar, The Roslyn Chapel and the so-called Rose Line. They go about trying to discredit all the information in Dan Brown's novel and ROn Howard's movie, by pointing out details such as the historical facts regarding possible decendants of Jesus Christ, the roles of churches, states, and governments. They try to discredit all the unproven bits of history throughout the text of the novel and the movie, including the origin and history masonic rituals (decendents of the Knights Templar), Poriea of Sian, Da Vinci's painting of The Last Supper on the Sixteenth Chapel, etc. etc. It's frankly ridiculous - it's FICTION friends.
Trying to discredit The Da Vinci Code makes as much sense as discrediting Ron Howards other movies like Cocoon. Fiction - fiction - fiction. Everyone relax please. The great thing that has come out of The Da Vinci Code and other contreverisal books and movies, such as The Passion of The Christ, is attention is brought to bear on our saviour Jesus Christ and his father in heaven. We are reminded of Christ and the father, we are reminded of the existence of faith on earth, we are reminded of the power and glory we are blessed with when we believe in the heavens, Jesus, the father, and the holy ghost.
Today I say a prayer the lord for peace and understanding between all peoples on our earth. I pray to our lord for the coming together of all religions, sects, and cultures for peace and good will. I pray that we as people do not turn simple works of fictious entertainment into fodder for anger, hatred, and disention. I pray to our lord Jesus Christ for the peace of heart, soul, and mind, in these turbulent times on earth. I pray today that we all come together in the spirit of love, undertsanding and good will.
