A Prayer For The Journalists
Please join me in a prayer for the journalists in harms way as they report the news in battle sickened areas. All over the world in different war-torn countries, embedded (and freelance) journalists risk their lives daily trying to capture media information in the form of pictures and interviews, in the hope that they can break a new story. Unfortunately journalists are sometimes labeled as ambulance chasers who don't have any sympathy for the victims of tragic circumstance, but I disagree with this view.Dedicated journalists risk their lives and well being everyday for the sake of themselves, their profession, their country, and our world as a global community. I cannot imagine what our world would be like if we did not have journalists documenting good and bad news. The only way we can affect change in a positive way is to understand what is taking place in locations around the world.
At one time in my life I thought of becoming a journalist, as I enjoy writing, and I do like to know what is going on in the world. In a sense, my blog is my own journal, and who knows, maybe I can bring some sense of peace to visitors who read my daily prayers. I truly believe that words are the most powerful force on our earth, and god knows this to be true. Jesus came to us and used nothing but words to cement the message of god in the foundations of our world's house.
There are many people that believe journalists are simply seeking fame and notoriety by chasing down stories of intense subject matter, but I would again disagree. I find that line of logic to be cynical, and defeatist. I truly believe that journalists passionately intent to report the news for the sake of mankind, and that they feel a strong sense of duty to serve their communities, whether it's their local communities, or our global community.
Many of the world's most famous journalists were never interested in monetary gain from their work. The salary structure for journalists is surprisingly low, considering the dedication it takes to carry out the job. Journalism is such a competitive field, and the hours of hard work required to compete are staggering. Salaries for journalists can sometimes skyrocket if they are picked up by a major news outlet such as CNN, BBC, and MSNBC (just to name a few), but the majority of news reporters and media workers, including support staff and technical staff, only ever make adequate salaries.
So today I send out my prayers to the reporters, journalists, and media people, reporting the news. I pray for their safe passage, and that of god is safe guarding them in their travels. I pray today for all the journalists who have lost their lives. I pray for the families of the journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty. I pray that all the embedded journalists working with, and living with the armed forces are not hurt or killed while gathering information for us back home.
